…do you remember when greek salads were sans lettuce?
the millenium greek salad apparently is nothing more than a garden salad with olives and a couple of cubes of feta. (and they are carefully cut cubes, which indicates the cheese has been cut from one of those plastic containers of feta you can get at a grocery store). there are a few obligatory alternative vegetables decorating the top of the salad, which is a mountain of iceberg and boston lettuce underneath. who wants that?? this just isn’t a hong kong phenomenom either.
i remember crumbly, erratically sized chunks of feta roaming about those greek salads of the past. crushing the cheese with my fork and ploughing it into the tomato. kalamata and onions together. cucumber.
it was so simple and perfect.
RIP greek salad.
