a true piece of canadiana

the americans have school house rock, home to such saturday classics as ‘conjunction junction’, ‘i’m just a bill’, and ‘a noun is a person place or thing’ as their ties to cartoon mornings and childhood.

canadians also watched schoolhouse rock and i am a better person for it. but it was very american. was there any equivalent educational program that we had a love/hate relationship with and that we still remember almost 30 years later?

why yes, thank you for asking.

this is a big part of yellowknife saturday mornings, graeme and i jumping around with shreddies and brown sugar, from couch to couch, trying to get a twirl in there, so we could be log drivers.

happy days. good times. happy canada day.

  4. I remember Schoolhouse Rock, and the Log Driver’s Waltz. Only had two channels in Saskatoon, CBC and the French channel, take your pick! My Mom was born and raised in Youbou, BC, a logging town on Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island, so I always liked the Log Driver’s Waltz, as my Grandfather had worked in the mill. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  5. But what of all the Sesame Street songs? Ernie’s Rubber Duckie is still my favorite. (both the rubber-duck-duck and put down the duckie)

Truely Canadian and ditto, one of my faves too. right next to The Beachcombers, not exactly Sat a.m. but CBC North was on the cutting edge with guys like ‘old Relic’!
