noxema hopes and dancing woes

i have a not so secret dream: i would love to be a spokesperson for noxema.

i am a true noxema girl, i have been using it since i was 12 years old. i have always loved that smell. cleanliness, youth, summer, showers.

15 years ago, noxema came up with a campaign featuring women in their 50’s and i was thrilled. the women weren’t modelly 50 year old christie brinklie types (complete with erring husbands) they were regular women. maybe maybe i hoped, i could be a noxema woman. because i AM a noxema girl now. all i have to do is keep using. i wouldn’t have to pretend. i do love the product. and maybe they would give me some gratis. don’t tell my dad, but i would do it for free, though.

you can bet that i slathered myself in noxema following yesterday’s tess meets potential avian flu duck feet incident. wow. that was really something. but the kids liked it and are looking forward to going back to "playgoop".

the kids are also liking dora the explorer. i started them watching dora this year in hopes of weaning them off the wiggles. i was getting tired of doing the same old wiggles dance routines over and over again. and of course, since we don’t get dora on television here, i didn’t know that dora has it’s own vaguely addicting bits.

and my dear readers, none of you mentioned it either.

so, now all my kids are attempting to snap. not because they are going to form their own doo-wop gang and make a little extra cash, but because they want to be a real authentic swiper, and snap disappointedly to accompany their "awww maaaaaaaaaaaan!" nice. very classy.

and of course, then there is the fact that at the end of just about every dora episode (and granted, we only have six), there is the triumphant dora dance. she swings her arms back and forth with her silly monkey and maybe diego the cousin…"we did it, we did it! we worked together and we worked real hard and we did it!" oh yes, mummy do the dora dance" (which i am getting quite good at) is a popular request in the house. at least with the wiggles i could vary my routine , but celluloid dora only offers me one dance. she’s an explorer for goodness sake; i expected her to be a little more adventurous and to offer me a little more variety. but apparently not.

aawwww maaan!

  8. three hours. that’s how long i waited in line at the mall so that sagan could spend 30 seconds with dora. and that was the second time that day. the first time we were in line for over an hour and had to give up because there was no way were going to get to the front of the queue before we had to leave for gym and swim. and he calls me the mean parent.

  9. Dora fanatics here too, my dear.
Dora was in town last month and only after promising Brody I would take him did I realize that I had to work late that night. So poor Daniel had to stand in line for 2 hours to see her. And after all of that – B got 5 seconds and a snapshot. But he was “star struck” all the same.
If you’ve never seen the Halloween episode – it’s a must. We start playing the DVD around September and finally wean B off of it near Christmas….
